K3 problems. Any ideas ?

This morning local time (Saturday 21:00 gmt) we started our journey to Caroline island. Estimate 5 days sailing. Almost 9,000 Qs in our logs from the 3 days on Malvern. Derek's beloved Elecraft K3 has a problem! On 40m only, the instant the rig is keyed, even at min power, it switches off as if the supply plug is disconnected. After an indeterminate delay power is restored and the rig can be used on other bands. Any ideas, please contact Maury, IZ1CRR (iz1crr @ tin.it). 73 Derek

T32: an IOTA operation

We have had many requests for operation on 6m moon bounce, RTTY, PSK, low band SSB, 160m etc, etc. Please be advised that since this is primarily an IOTA operation we will be concentrating on providing a contact with as many different stations as possible irrespective of band or mode. We will therefore be operating the bands 80m through 10m SSB and CW whichever is providing the best propagation conditions at the time.

M/V Kwai is already at Fanning Island and will be here Friday 01:00 gmt. We expect to leave for the Southern Line Islands Saturday 02:00 gmt

T32: Nils withdrawal

It is with great regret that we have to announce that Nils, SM6CAS has had to withdraw from the dxpedition. This is due to his wife’s health. Aila has been ill since 12th January with a severe lung problem which has still not been diagnosed.

Nils is very keen for this dxpedition to go ahead even though he cannot join us. He has been planning this for several years and he is the major financier of the project. We owe Nils a deep debt of gratitude for supporting this trip under the circumstances.

Nils will be the QSL manager for all 4 islands. Please be generous with your green stamps etc to help him recover some of this major financial outlay.

High Altitude Balloon going NEAR Space

This is from a high altitude balloon. The balloon reached 90,000 ft which is a near space altitude.

It was tracked using ham radio (APRS), gps and a tinytrak3+.
The video was taken using a kodak zi6. .

STS-130 Shuttle Mission Imagery

ISS022-E-062672 (9 Feb. 2010)--- Though astronauts and cosmonauts often encounter striking scenes of Earth's limb, this very unique image, part of a series over Earth's colorful horizon, has the added feature of a silhouette of the space shuttle Endeavour. The image was photographed by an Expedition 22 crew member prior to STS-130 rendezvous and docking operations with the International Space Station. Docking occurred at 11:06 p.m. (CST) on Feb. 9, 2010. The orbital outpost was at 46.9 south latitude and 80.5 west longitude, over the South Pacific Ocean off the coast of southern Chile with an altitude of 183 nautical miles when the image was recorded. The orange layer is the troposphere, where all of the weather and clouds which we typically watch and experience are generated and contained. This orange layer gives way to the whitish Stratosphere and then into the Mesosphere. In some frames the black color is part of a window frame rather than the blackness of space.
