HAMs Asked to Listen for RS-39 Sat

The Chibis-M microsatellite, also known as RS-39 (RadioSputnik 39), was jettisoned from the Progress M-13M cargo spacecraft Tuesday evening (UTC). The satellite is designed to study atmospheric phenomena such as Terrestrial Gamma Ray Flashes (TGFs) associated with lightning. RS-39 has CW beacons on 435.315 and 435.215 MHz and amateurs are asked to submit reception reports via email to the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences at amateur-rs39@chibis.cosmos.ru. Each report will be acknowledged with a special QSL. The CW telemetry format is available here. Telemetry decoding software written by Mike Rupprecht, DK3WN, can be downloaded here.

Per chi non avesse letto i miei post precedenti la toolbar che ho disegnato grazie alla Conduit permette di semplificare le ricerche di informazioni nel nostro hobby radioamatoriale prevedendo già alcuni comandi ridondanti. Ad esempio oltre alle ricerche qrz, bollettini 425, spot dx, si possono vedere il webcluster dxwatch, gli rss feed aggiornati, il link diretto ai maggiori siti ham, la dxpedition map, una chat, yahoo e msn messenger e molto altro ancora. Si installa per browser Explorer e Firefox. Ben 623000 sono le operazioni fatte tramite la toolbar da chi l'ha installata finora. Non male vero ? Per installare questo utilissimo strumento gratuito andate qui.

Building a Three-Penny Radio

A crystal radio is nice because it needs no power, and the materials can all be home-made or at least found around the house. But the crystal radio needs a big antenna, and a good ground, and so is not very portable.

To get away with using a much smaller, portable antenna, we will need to amplify the tiny signal it receives. This requires a portable power supply, such as a battery.

Our next toy is a portable radio. It can be powered from a tiny 1.5 volt battery, or from a battery made from copper wire and aluminum foil sitting in a glass of lemonade, a soft drink, or a beer, or by a few small commercial solar cells.

Hagia Sophia (St. Sophia Cathedral) was built in the XI century in the city center on the order of Yaroslav the Wise. At the turn of the XVII-XVIII centuries was apparently rebuilt in the Ukrainian Baroque style. Inside the cathedral, numerous ancient frescoes and mosaics, including the famous mosaic of the Virgin Orans.

Saint Sophia Cathedral was the first entered in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, an architectural monument in Ukraine.

In honor of St. Sophia The Millennium of 20 November 2011 to January 31, 2012 in broadcast radio will work EM1000USK.

The work will be conducted on all shortwave bands SSB, CW and DIGI.

Held for communication with EM1000USK will be issued a commemorative award electronic

"Sophia of Kiev-1000 years."

I am flying tonight from Kingston (Nov 19 at 0:56 UTC), arriving in Santiago tomorrow lunch time (15 UTC). I will be meeting with the CE team at the Radioclub de Chile. After the equipment, camping gear and food provisions will be checked one more time, everything will be loaded into the rented pickup truck and we'll drive south-west, towards the shore, where we will stay for the night. Landing on Pupuya will be attempted on Sunday morning, and I will be joined in this attempt by Christian.

Please note the following:

- There will be no SAT phone or email communication between the island and mainland. We will use VHF radios in case of emergency.

- Refrain from posting band/mode requests on the DX cluster, since I will not have access to them.

- In case of significant developments, updates will be posted on this website.

On Sunday, November 6th at 11:54 AM EST, a high altitude weather balloon lifted off from Carrollton, Georgia. At about 1:10 PM, we lost communication with the balloon. The last coordinates showed it at 63,498 feet and 5.4 miles northwest of Union City.

I have created this map to show the balloon’s path, a trajectory prediction for that day, two predicted landing sites, as well as the travel routes of two vehicles that were searching for it.

Welcome to "myQSL Service".

This system will allow you to download the "myQSL Card Creator" program (see the link above) and let you create Pdf versions of your QSL cards. It then lets you send those cards to the receiving ham via "The Cloud", where they can be picked up for FREE.

If the receiving ham has registered (for FREE) on The Cloud, the system will send them an email notification telling them that they have a Qsl card waiting for them to download to their computer. There is never a charge for the receiver to download a card. They can then later print it out on their own color printer and use it as any other card that you might have mailed to them. The only charge for the service is a small $4.95 annual fee to renew the license for the "myQSL Card Creator" program. The system is "SECURE" as you can see by the "S" after the http url address above. That means that no one can tamper with the card between the time it leaves the local computer where it was created and when it finally arrives at the destination computer.

DroidRTTY is an application to decode and encode Ham Radio RTTY with the build in microphone/speaker or wired to your radio. A waterfall shows the frequency spectrum of 100Hz to 2000Hz. Just slide the waterfall slide on a RTTY carrier frequency and DroidRTTY will decode the signal. In transmitting mode characters can be entered trough the keyboard. 9 Macros are also available to store standard texts like “name and qth” and “station info” DroidRTTY also now includes a logbook. Callsign, Name RST etc can be easily tranfered into the lookbook from the receiving screen. The logbook also includes ADIF export and import to transfer your logbook data to a PC based logging software. LINK

ICOM IC-PCR1500 receiver for sale

"Looking to get active on HF so I need to sell my receiver so I can get a tranceiver. I have an Icom ic-pcr1500 receiver, it's in as new condition from a non smoking shack. I've listened in on all HF bands recently with a 150' long wire and the receiver sounds great. It replaced a pcr-1000 that I had before I was licensed but now that I am it's time to talk. I have the original USB cable and power supply, the firmware has been upgraded to the latest version and I have a CD copy of the latest software as well as the original disc, manual and box. The only thing I don't have is the original telescopic antenna, it's around here somewhere I just never used it so if I find it it's yours, if not I'll send along a BNC connector. I paid $850 for it new, looking to get $600. Paypal is my preffered method, however I'm open to others.

EME, short for Earth Moon Earth communications involves using the Moon as a passive reflector to enable beyond the horizon communications on frequencies where this would not normally be possible. The very small signal levels involved demand that all the station components, antenna, preamplifiers, transmitters and signal processing have to be optimised to achieve the required system performance.

These conferences provide an opportunity for those involved in this challenging, science based aspect of amateur radio to exchange ideas leading to improved techniques in EME communications.

60th anniversary of the VRZA

On Sunday 27 NOV 2011 will once again VRZA QSO party held to celebrate the 60 e anniversary of the VRZA. This QSO Party will be marked by a lively session on the radio, where possible VRZA club stations in the air will be. It is NOT a contest, so you need not tracking numbers to exchange. However, you this day the beautiful DIVISIONAL AWARD pan out with the words "21 e VRZA QSO Party 2011 ". To achieve this award, we deviate slightly from the normal rules just because one day it can be achieved. To apply for the award you need 10 on HF and VHF / UHF 5 PI60 club stationsThe VRZA to have worked. The QSO Party will be held on Sunday, November 27 axis . from 13.00 - 16.00 hours local time on the bands 80 and 2 meters.
